The Whale and the Painful Facts

Whales die because of us, because of us humans. All living things die because of our filth and greed. What a pity!!!

Developing technology, increasing waste and us! We bring chaos to quiet and serene places… Whales are placental marine mammals that live entirely in water and are made up of many different species, commonly found in the world’s oceans. Whales are creatures of the high seas; They feed, mate, give birth, and nurse and raise their young in the sea. Their lives are so adapted to living at sea that they cannot survive on land. Likewise, when they are hunted, their numbers decrease considerably. Blue whales, one of them, are the largest animals to have come to the surface with a weight of 200 tons and a length of 30 meters. However, many parts of their lives remain a mystery. They are found in all kinds of oceans. The offspring of blue whales are also the largest baby animals in the world, with a length of 8 meters and a weight of 6 tons. Blue whales can only give birth in 1–2 years. While the number of blue whales was 300,000 a few 100 years ago, today this number has caused a few thousand blue whales to remain due to unconscious hunting and illegal killing. However, in recent years, the number of blue whales has increased slightly, as some countries have realized the situation. So now they are under protection.

Okay, very nice, but where did this whaling come from? The history of whaling goes back to before Christ. Whaling, which was developed by whaling fleets in the early 17th century with the traditional Arctic evolution, became a national competition and became an industry in the 18th and 19th centuries. Until the 1930s, about 30,000 whales were killed under the name of whaling. In 1946, the International Whaling Commission (IWC) emphasized international cooperation on modern whaling and cooperation on resource management. Greenpeace and other environmental groups protest the annual whaling with various activities, especially in Japan and Canada. However, hundreds of whales die every year due to whale slaughter, which the Japanese still regard as an ancestral sport. Unfortunately, the images recently released to the world public once again showed how painful this whale massacre was. The agony of whales in these images questions our conscience in our hearts. Everyone was very upset, but after 1 week we went on with our lives as if nothing had happened. We don’t need to be sad all the time, but do we need to pollute the environment all the time?

Bizim yüzümüzden! Bizim attığımız çöpler yüzünden!

We are also to blame for the whale massacres. The 8th continent, which reaches the size of a continent with the garbage we throw away every year, is the biggest example of this. While we can’t even figure out how to get rid of these garbage heaps, we still continue to pollute. These will cause great harm to us in the near future. First and foremost, in the ecological system… We are responsible for the death of thousands of animals, such as a turtle that mistook this garbage for food or ingesting plastic waste while breathing.

But why do they hunt whales? One of the reasons why whales are hunted is whale oil. Any oil obtained from any species of whale, including whale oil, also called trench oil, sperm oil from sperm whales, train oil from baleen whales, and melon oil from small toothed whales. From the 1st to the 19th centuries, whale oil was mainly used for lamp fuel and soap production. Long used to lubricate fine tools, whale oil was treated with sulfur to provide high-pressure lubricants used in machinery and was also important in the manufacture of varnishes, leather, linoleum, and coarse cloth (especially jute). However, it is obvious. up to a point. For this, alternative solutions need to be produced. We not only endanger the lives of living things, but we also endanger ourselves. Not a day goes by, we continue to pollute nature and the environment, but we do not know that we are slowly erasing ourselves!
